My BFF Coming out to her 89 Year old Grandmother
BFF: Grandmother I need to talk to you
Grandma: [concerned voice] What? What is it? Are you sick?
BFF: No, no. Grandma. I'm gay.
Grandma: What?
BFF: I'm gay Grandma. I have a girlfriend now.
Grandma: [relieved voice] Oh honey, is that all? I thought you had cancer. Anytime someone needs to tell me something they are sick. Who's your girlfriend, when is her birthday? I'll bake her a pie.
If we can’t write diversity into sci-fi, then what’s the point? You don’t create new worlds to give them all the same limits of the old ones.

I dunno how many which ways this needs to be said

Do you ever catch yourself thinking rude things about someone or judging them and you’re like “hey stop that, that’s not nice don’t u do that”

But are you paying attention to what’s going on??? My heart is so heavy….. so heavy…
An attorney for the family of John Crawford III, the man fatally shot by police in an Ohio Walmart store, says surveillance video contradicts the police department’s version of events. Officers say Crawford refused to drop the pellet gun he was holding, but the video allegedly shows them gunning him down “on sight.”
Crawford, 22, was shopping at the Beavercreek, Ohio store on Aug. 5 whenpolice responded to another customer’s report that Crawford was carrying an AR-15 rifle. He was actually holding a pellet air rifle he had just picked up from a shelf in the store’s toy department.
Attorney Michael Wright says he viewed surveillance video that shows Crawford was facing away from the cops and talking to his girlfriend on the phone when police spotted him, and didn’t have the toy gun raised. Hetold WDTN Crawford probably didn’t see or hear the officers before he was shot.
"John was doing nothing wrong in Walmart, nothing more, nothing less than shopping,"Wright said, according to Reuters.

sheetmusicandsleepypills:

Hello!

My name is Syd Donielle Rvinsky and I am a classical voice major at the New England Conservatory of Music. I love my school and my (hopeful) future plans for opera. I started school last year.

Last year was also when my mum got sick. First it was pancreatitis, then liver cancer (and as of a half an hour ago a broken foot???). Thankfully she has healed from everything with the exception of a small, inoperable tumor in her cerebellum.

This is not all. Two months ago her best friend of ten years committed suicide (RIP Dave). This was the straw that broke her. Depression clouded her days and working no longer became an option.

The hospital bills piled up. I should say that she works as a psychologist and a single mother, and does a brilliant job at both. With the sick time, emotional instability, and inability to go back to work, my academic future is now in jeopardy.

I love my mum with all of my heart. She is my world and I would do anything to restore her health and mind. While time can only heal some wounds, I still have to focus on school. I’m raising money to keep my place at NEC, as well as raising money for her hospital visits. If she can’t pay off the bills soon; she will have to vacate. In her current state she can’t afford to do this.

Please help me help her. I love my school, but if I have to stay back a year I would in a heartbeat. She is my world and I just want her to be safe in her home, at the very least.

If you can’t contribute I completely understand. Times are tough and the world is in chaos and everyone needs as much as they can get. But if there is anything you can throw our way, every little bit helps.

Thank you so much for reading this, and I hope you have a colorful day

Please share this. Syd and her mother are absolutely lovely people, and deserve so much better than what circumstance has given them. Let’s help make this right.

The idea that we should treat sexual orientation itself as an adults-only topic, however, is absurd. Non-heterosexual children exist. To pretend they do not, to fail to recognize that they have needs for support and validation like any child, would be bad teaching, bad writing, and bad citizenship.

Rick Riordan, from his FAQ on his website.

Fuck, I love you.

i hit my coworkers shoulder lightly and he was like “you’re going to make me cry like a girl” and i was like “what’s wrong with being a girl?” and he was quiet for a moment then he looked into the distance and whispered “the social standards they’re forced to live by”
